A Space CE room is a deployed instance of a system template running in a physical space. In unison with its template, the room configuration drives the room control logic for the space’s audiovisual and other related equipment and systems. The template supplies the standard design — devices, AV sources and destinations, user interface behaviour, and automation — while the room adds everything that makes that deployment unique: its name, its zone, its device addresses, and any local adjustments the room requires.
Rooms and Their Template
Rooms inherit the configuration defined at their template and extend it with room-specific values such as IP addresses, hostnames, and device identifiers.
Space CE rooms are deliberately decoupled from their template. Updating a template does not automatically change the rooms created from it, and room software versions can diverge from the template’s. Rooms keep running exactly as deployed until an administrator chooses to bring updates to them. To help maintain uniformity across a fleet, Innomesh flags synchronisation issues between rooms and their templates.
For why templates work this way — and how they keep a fleet consistent — see the Space CE Template Overview.
Room Status at a Glance
Hovering over a room and clicking the pencil icon opens the room configuration window. Its top-left corner shows the room’s three key status indicators:
- Zone — where the room sits in your environment. Rooms can be moved between zones after creation, so a room can start in a testing zone and move to production once commissioned.
- Software Version — the Space CE software the room is running. Clicking the underlined version reveals the update controls.
- Template Version — the version of the system template deployed against the room.
Because room and template software operate independently, these indicators are the quickest way to spot a room that has drifted from its fleet.
Room Configuration
What is editable at the room level is governed by the template. The template’s Room Options section selects which configuration items room editors can see and change — particularly useful for enforcing standards when contractors or non-administrator users deploy rooms. For full access, the room’s Show All Options action unlocks the complete configuration; settings changed this way become the room’s own and no longer update automatically from the template.
The sections most commonly touched at the room level:
- Properties hold the room’s identity: Room Name, Room ID, Room Friendly Name (new in v3.6.1), and Room Author (auto-populated with the creator’s name). Two flags manage alerting: In Maintenance diverts the room’s alerts to the Suppressed Alerts list while the room is being built or refurbished, and Is Portable drops connectivity and communication alerts for rooms that are not always expected to be online.
- Devices are largely inherited from the template; the room supplies the room-specific connection details such as hostnames, IP addresses, and credentials. To remove a device that has been inherited from the template, disable it. Note: deleting it will not achieve this — the device is re-inserted as soon as the room configuration is merged with the template configuration. Room Manager also surfaces a warning when you attempt to delete an inherited device. See Space CE Room Devices for the layout of this section.
- User Interfaces — the room’s touch panel and remote user interface settings.
- Macros automate the room with event-based and time-based triggers. See the Macros article for the full trigger and action catalogue.
Section-by-section guidance for the full configuration lives in the Space CE Configuration category.
Keeping the Room Up to Date
Two things can be updated on a room, independently of each other:
- Room software — upgrade (or, within limits, downgrade) the Space CE version the room runs, without touching the template. See Updating Space CE Room Software.
- Configuration — bring template changes into the room. Updates can be pushed from the template out to its rooms, or pulled into an individual room. See the Space CE Template Overview for how updates flow.
Room Management Actions
Day-to-day management actions — exporting the room as JSON, duplicating it, assigning user groups, configuring VNC and web panels, and deleting the room — live in the room’s Options menu. See the Space CE Room - Options Menu for the full list.
